I know the media pushes a lot of negative images to us about Africa and other Eastern countries, however, any time you travel to a place you are unfamiliar with, it is a good idea to do a little research and use a great deal of common sense. Be familiar with the laws of that nation, as well as the local customs (just so you dont do anything to piss someone off and wind up in jail somehow-lots of Westerners do that, and they make local news). You can always grab one of those books from Barnes and Nobel or Borders in the travel section and read that while you are on the plane to ease your mind of any worries.
