I just bought a guines pig a couple of weeks ago.how do i give her a bath..and what kind of shampoo would u use??
Answer:Only when they absolutely need it. Bathing guinea pigs too often can really dry out their skin. You'll want to use a special shampoo that is formulated for them (or bunnies). IMPORTANT: Do NOT use human shampoo (even baby), they contain chemicals and other agents that can HARM guinea pigs. Make sure not to get any shampoo or water in their ears. In fact just avoid the face all together. It is best to bathe them in a sink with about an inch or two of warm water. You should place a mat or face cloth in the sink as well for their comfort. Then rinse them real well. After wards, towel dry them off completely or use a blow dryer on a low setting (but not too close to them). Make sure it doesn't get too hot. Do NOT place them back in their cage until they are completely dry or they can become sick with a cold or other respiratory illness (which they can be highly susceptible of). Keep them in a warm area as well until they are dry (no fans or drafts). I have a C&C cage at the moment for 3 female guinea pigs and I was thinking about getting another guinea pig. I am planning on building an even bigger C&C cage so I can have more room for an additional guinea pig. If I were to introduce the new guinea pig and my current 3 guinea pigs to the new C&C cage, would there be any issues? Any advice in introducing a new guinea pig would be nice as well. Thanks.
Answer:No, there shouldn't be a problem! Just inroduce them one at a time. If they begin to chatter their teeth, they may fight! Throw a towel over their heads to stop the fight. Then, you'll know you'll have to work on that. Hope this Helps!
I know this is a strange question hahah. But I really want a guinea I'm fully able to pay for all the guinea pigs expenses. And I know that once I actually have to guinea pig my parents will be fine with it. But for now and for a few months, how do I sneak a guinea pig into my house?
Answer:Don't do it. There is no way you know that your parents will be okay with it "once you have it" than they are now. Obviously if they aren't okay with it right now, they might not be okay with it once you get it. In fact, they might just be super pissed that you went behind their back. Talk to them, do research on the pet and show them what you've learned. Show them you know how to properly take care of guinea pigs, and show them all the positive things about them.
I know that guinea pigs need vitamin C daily from their diet because they can't produce it or store it on their own, but I have read that their natural diet in the wild is just grasses. Where do wild guinea pigs get their vitamin C?
Answer:Most animals produce vitamin C in their cells from its component parts. This means that they do not need vitamin C in their diet, because they will produce it from the food they eat. Guinea pigs, primates and humans do NOT produce vitamin C in their bodies, so they MUST get it from their diet. If they do not consume adequate amounts of vitamin C they will suffer from a deficiency called scurvy. Signs of scurvy include lethargy, diarrhoea, weight loss, and internal skeletal-muscular haemorrhage. Vitamin C is also a water-soluble vitamin, so it can not be stored in the body. These animals therefore need to get vit C in their diet every day. Wild guinea pigs eat a variety of plant matter - and plants contain high levels of vitamin C. If you want more detail consider this: In the wild guinea pigs are grazers - they eat all the time. Their diet is low in calories, so they must eat a large quantity to get enough energy. It is easy to get enough vit C when you eat such a large amount of fresh food! Many pet guinea pigs are fed a complete diet, with very little fresh food. I posted a question on yahoo answers asking what breed my guinea pig was and some people said it was a english guinea pig and others said it was an american guinea pig. What is the difference how can I tell?
